Summarised Overview
A research study is a systematic investigation of a specific problem, area, or topic.
It adds value to the existing knowledge. There are various types of research for various
situations. Based on the intent and method of research, thirteen different types of
research can be conducted.
In research, various approaches such as inductive and deductive approaches are used
to reach conclusions. The primary distinction between inductive and deductive reasoning
is that inductive reasoning seeks to develop a theory, whereas deductive reasoning seeks
to test an existing theory. Inductive reasoning proceeds from specific observations to
broad generalisations, whereas deductive reasoning proceeds in the opposite direction.
Both approaches are used in different types of research, and it is not uncommon for them
to be combined in a single large study.
