Course Objectives
1. To make the learner critically analyze the role of European companies in establishing
colonial rule in India.
2. To make the learner aware of the various resistance movements against the British rule
3. To make the learner aware of the causes for the rise of national consciousness in in India
4. To make the learner aware of the different political associations in India which helped in
developing nationalism
5. To make the learner aware of the impact of world war on the national movement in India
Course Outcome:
This course is the first part of the course designed to be introduced to the students of other
disciplines as Ancillary Course. This course covers the history of British Colonialism in India and the
anti-colonial national movement up to the Gandhian Era. The course will help the students to
understand the inner dynamics that led to the making of India as a Nation.
