Message from Vice Chancellor

Dear learner,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Sreenarayanaguru Open University, established in
September 2020 to promote higher education through open and distance learning. Our mission
is guided by the principle that ‘access and quality define equity’, ensuring excellence in education.

The university is committed to providing high-quality education and carefully designed pro-
grammes to meet the expected standard. It bears the name of Sreenarayanaguru, a prominent
modern Indian thinker who inspires us to maintain quality in all our academic pursuits. Our
educational approach utilises a ‘blended format’, combining Self-Learning Material, Classroom
Counselling, and Virtual modes. This structure aims to provide a comprehensive learning expe-
rience, addressing the potential limitations of distance education.

The four-year undergraduate programmes by the university offer a comprehensive learning
experience, providing in-depth subject knowledge, enhanced research skills, and industry-rele-
vant training. They emphasise critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation while focusing
on digital literacy and global perspectives. With personalised learning paths and continuous
assessment, these programmes ensure holistic development, preparing learners for diverse ca-
reers and further academic pursuits. Our curriculum balances theoretical knowledge with prac-
tical applications, ensuring well-equipped graduates.

This course, ‘English for Communication’, is offered as a mandatory ability enhancement com-
ponent in the first semester of all four-year undergraduate programmes. We have designed it
to meet the growing demand for effective communication skills in English. The course includes
exercises and problem-solving activities to enhance your learning experience.
